Hey y’all! My name is Tiffany Lacroix (she/her/hers), and I’m thrilled to share pieces of my journey with you. Before diving into the purpose behind Black Woman Empowered, I’d love to introduce myself. I’m currently in my final year of the Sophie Davis Biomedical Program which is a 7 year BS/MD program. This August, I started my 4th year of medical school. During my undergraduate studies, I minored in Black Studies and was heavily involved in community work, which deepened my passion for health equity, Black health, and especially the health of Black women.
I created this blog at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic as a platform to educate others on the challenges faced by marginalized communities—focusing on the daily injustices Black women encounter. I also aim to document my journey as a Black woman in medicine! Representation is something I strongly believe in… Only 2% of U.S. physicians are Black women, largely due to systemic inequities, but also because there’s limited visibility and support for our paths. I want to share my story and offer a resource for those who aspire to walk a similar path.
Through my words, I hope to spark understanding in those who may not have experienced what I write about, while also empowering those who look like me to keep pushing forward.
