What it Would Look Like Becoming “Her”

I’ve been noticing a lot of traction around this idea of reinventing yourself during the new year and I wondered what that really meant. Are you changing your style and completely dumping your old wardrobe? Are you creating new wellness habits to improve your overall health? Are you separating yourself from people that do not bring the best out of you? All of these questions revolving around this idea of reinventing self piled up in my mind. I thought about it and came to the conclusion that reinvention can really encompass all of the things I mentioned before or anything YOU want for yourself period. Who you want to be, how you want to feel, who you want to spend time with and how you want to look are all pieces of this puzzle. I always think about the woman I want to be in my mid to late thirties... Everything I do now will dictate that and I am trying my best to work towards becoming her. The journey to becoming everything you have ever wanted in yourself is one that will require patience, dedication, and a lot of work. I know that it won’t take six months or even a year to become her but each year is an opportunity to become closer than I was the year before.

So, the first step is to decide who is she? Who is this woman I want to become, how does she live her life, what are the current aspects of myself that do not align and how can I start the path to becoming her? After thinking a lot about who "she" is, I came up with a few ideas: so, the woman I hope to become is passionate. She takes every role in her life seriously and is always seeking opportunities to level up. She is disciplined in how she treats her body and overall physical health. This means enjoying luxuries of life without unintentionally becoming greedy. This also means making time for physical activity no matter how busy and overwhelming scheduling becomes. She set boundaries and builds healthy relationships with people because she knows what she deserves in this life. More specifically, she owns her own business, she is a published author and a physician in the process of starting her own practice. She understands that life has its ups and downs but refuses to allow the "downs" to represent the entirety of her experiences. She continuously deepens her relationship with God and is reminded of his presence through the lessons and miracles she encounters every day. She is loving, warm, and empathetic.

I think about who I am at this moment and a lot of the qualities I hope to acquire are already seeds planted. During the upcoming years, I have to tend to these seeds by watering them and keeping them nourished so that I can eventually have a garden. In 2022, I don’t plan on having a full-blown garden (that would be nice..) but I hope to see some flowers and green grass grow. Each day, week, and month of this next year is a new opportunity to become her. It’s difficult to tackle all of your personal goals at once but trying a little bit every day will eventually get you to where you need to be. 2022 will be my season of becoming disciplined and finding balance. I cannot become her without being serious and intentional about what I want for myself. Realistically, every day won’t be perfect and that is just how life works. So, if I find myself becoming stagnant or simply set back this year, I owe it to myself to try again in the next 24 hours.

I hope you all are bringing in the new year with hope... I know 2021 may not have been the best year for everyone and that is okay. This upcoming year is a chance for us to reset but remember that every day presents itself with a new opportunity to achieve. If you have thirty minutes, sit down and write down who you want to be. Envision that person and start writing down ways that you can become that person. Start as small as you want, and when you are ready make bigger strides towards this goal. You got this!

Happy New Year Y'all... Stay safe + empowered!

With love,
